Functional Skills
English
This Functional Skills English course, funded by ASF / UKPSF through North Lincolnshire Council, is designed with employability at its heart. Delivered in partnership with NOCN, the course supports learners to build the English (and linked maths) skills needed for work, further learning, and everyday life. A dedicated Job Coach is available to support progression into employment or training.
E1 to Level 2

OBJECTIVES
Course Objectives & Outcomes
Communicate confidently in work and everyday situations
Develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to communicate clearly with employers, colleagues, and service providers.
Write clearly and accurately for practical purposes
Produce clear written English for CVs, application forms, emails, reports, and everyday workplace communication.
Build confidence alongside essential maths skills
Strengthen English skills while reinforcing the importance of functional maths for work, budgeting, and everyday problem-solving.
Improve reading and understanding of workplace information
Read and understand job adverts, emails, instructions, policies, and forms commonly used in employment and training settings.
Use English skills to support employability and progression
Apply Functional Skills English to real-life work scenarios, supporting job readiness, confidence, and career development.
Achieve a nationally recognised qualification and progress
Work towards an NOCN Functional Skills English qualification, with personalised support from tutors and a Job Coach to move into employment, apprenticeships, or further education.
