Horticulture for ESOL
Employability
This Horticulture for ESOL course, funded by ASF / UKPSF through North Lincolnshire Council, is designed to support ESOL learners interested in outdoor, gardening, or environmental roles. Delivered in partnership with NOCN, the course combines English language development with sector-specific vocabulary, practical communication skills, and employability knowledge needed for progression into training or employment. A dedicated Job Coach is available to support progression into work or further learning.
E1 to Level 2

OBJECTIVES
Course Objectives & Outcomes
Communicate confidently in horticulture and outdoor work settings
Develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and customers.
Use horticulture-specific language and terminology
Learn key vocabulary related to plants, tools, equipment, safety, and routine tasks used in gardening and grounds maintenance roles.
Understand workplace expectations and health & safety
Build knowledge of professional behaviour, safe working practices, and basic policies relevant to horticulture and outdoor environments.
Develop practical employability and outdoor work skills
Apply English and employability skills to real-life horticulture scenarios, including following instructions, completing simple records, and working as part of a team.
Build confidence for progression into outdoor roles
Increase confidence to progress into further training, volunteering, or employment within horticulture, grounds maintenance, or environmental sectors.
Progress towards recognised qualifications and employment
Prepare for progression into horticulture-related courses or employment, with personalised support from tutors and a Job Coach.
